Laboratory Artists 2024
Azucena Sanchez is a media artist whose work explores the intersection of life, science, and technology. Born in 1989 in Mexico City, she earned a BA in Graphic Design from La Salle University. In 2015, she moved to Germany to pursue a master’s degree in Medienkunst at Bauhaus Universität. Her works include bio media, tech-sculpture, multimedia, and site-specific installations that have been featured in international group exhibitions at Kulturhaus Neuperlach in München, Transmediale, Schillerpalais, and TopLab in Berlin, as well as STWST as part of Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, and MUCA in Mexico City.
Azucena works in a hybrid studio space that includes a ‘kitchen lab’ setup, where she collaborates with myriad organisms and living entities. She enjoys working both in the open field and within the controlled environment of a lab or artist studio, always leaving room for experimentation. Azucena sees her role as an artist as a mediator between nature and humanity, creating new forms of communication, coexistence and mutual understanding. Her work is a collaborative effort involving living and non-living organisms to explore their potential as interconnected entities and create new dialogues of resilience in the face of social and ecological crises.

Isadora Chadeaux (Hayden Potter) is an artist, event curator and writer from Brisbane, Australia working in noise & performative practice. Their work engages improvisational and collaborative approaches to performance that interrogate perceptions of failure. Within the shifting dynamics of a performance space they look to emphasize the tangible characteristics of emotional intensities hidden within layers of sonic and social dissonance. They’ve produced sound works for exhibitions in Brisbane and are currently based in Europe writing for Easterndaze.net, a journal of underground music in Central and Eastern Europe.

Andrejs Poikāns is an artist and researcher based between Riga, Latvia and Berlin, Germany. His works have taken the form of multichannel acousmatic composition, sound installation and performative lectures. He has collaborated in developing music for theatre and gallery based performances. The latter often involves arithmetic processes and the writing of simple computer programs for scheduling events in long time durations and making calendar entries. As a researcher he is fascinated by the topics of psychoanalysis of listening and philosophy of language.
He is a graduate of New Media Arts BA programme in Liepaja University (2017-2020) and holds an MA in Sonology from The Royal Conservatory The Hague (2020-2023).
He regularly performs computer music under his own name or under the alias ‘absence administration’. Lately exploring code based improvisation on a simple yet chaotic additive synthesis program he has developed in SuperCollider.

Michał Chrul is an interdisciplinary conceptual sound prankster based in Berlin. His body of work spans music production, video art scoring, sound design, live sound for performances and more. Michał is a verified user. He delves into the themes of loss, lost-time-nostalgia and trance-infused pathos. At outside_in he works on a video piece effectively undermining the intrinsics of confession. Big if true. He will also run a workshop going over spatial audio technologies as a mediatory apparatus.
Michal Klodner. I am moving from the field of audiovisual live performances and experimental film to forest gardening, building livinglab and back. With a background in information science and coding, I was among the founders and currently a curator of node9.org digital community server and online gallery. My practice involves writing on online activism, digital curation or postmediality, as part of creating networks based on trust in those fields. In the recent projects on the role of artistic research in sustainability I go into computational aspects of media art in relation to ecosystems and more than human natureculture communities, trying to develop livinglab as an interdisciplinary method of nondestructive living-research in nature and wilderness.
